• What: ICANN Regional Meeting
  • Where: Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai, UAE
  • When: April 1-3, 2008

The regional meeting to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai targets policy makers, government representatives, country code Top Level domain managers, and internet businesses; and intends to discuss topics of concern to a wide range of stakeholders. The agenda of the meeting is designed according to three focus areas: ICANN’s multi-stakeholder model for addressing issues in its mandate; Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), a key milestone in the development of the Internet; and the challenges and opportunities in Registry/Registrar businesses as well as developments in the generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) space. An overview of ICANN as a multi-stakeholder environment will be presented. Their members in various supporting organizations and advisory committees will share their experiences and explain to the audience why they participate in ICANN and how to get engaged in the process. A key area that ICANN and the Internet technical community have been exploring for the past few years is the IDN, not only its technical aspects but also its policy dimensions and implications. The meeting aims to inform the Internet community of the Arab region on the latest developments in this area, at the technical and policy levels; and share experiences and knowledge among the participants.
