The first of the three meetings in 2012 of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica  on the 11th to 16th of March, 2012.

ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation that has the responsibility of coordinating Internet names and numbers so that the web will continue to be stable, secure, and interoperable.

Each year, ICANN launches three separate meetings. For 2012, the first meeting will be held in Costa Rica (March 11-16); the second one in Prague, Czech Republic (June 24-29); and the last in Toronto, Canada (October 14-19).

The whole ICANN community is very much excited for these international public meetings.

ICANN Meeting #43 in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is said to be the greenest country in the world. It boasts of a rich wildlife, biodiversity, and culture. Located in Central America, Costa Rica is one of the most-visited tourist spots in the world.

The 43rd ICANN Meeting will take place in one of Costa Rica’s luxury places – the Ramada Plaza Herradura Golf Resort and Conference Center.

The host for this event is the National Academy of Sciences – NIC Costa Rica. Pertinent matters and issues in relation to the role of ICANN will be discussed.

About 1,200 – 1,500 Internet authorities and specialists across more than 100 countries are expected to attend.

The IEEE Technology Time Machine (IEEE TTM) 2011 Symposium is a three-day event that will use a tutorial-like approach in giving its attendees a glimpse of what will be the leading technologies of the future.

CENTR will have its 45th General Assembly on June 8, 2011 at 9:00 am – 6:00 pm in Trondheim, Norway. As an association of Internet country code top level domain registries (ccTLDs, such as dot-uk & dot-es), CENTR serves as a communication channel between Internet governing bodies and Internet organizations.

CENTR General Meetings provide the perfect venue for forums and discussions to take place regarding subject matters and policies affecting ccTLD registries.

Although the event is exclusive for CENTR members only, the public can still view its agenda and other related information. Presentations are also published after the event.

May 30,2011 is the marked date for ICANN’s official launching of the Munich Conference for New Top-Level Domain (nTLDs) applications.  New Top-Level Domains are expected to grow. By the year 2012, ICANN predicts 400 new additions to the existing list of generic domain extensions. In the wake of this trend, the domain industry is yet to witness further growth as more than 100 groups have announced their interest in  applying  for new TLD’s.

ICANN has recognised the demands related to this tremendous development. Examples of the demands that will need to be addressed, are the need for more networking opportunities, marketing ideas and long-term business strategies for the nTLDs. The Munich Conference on new TLDs event, will deliver appropriate assistance, new ideas, great opportunities and smart solutions in response to these needs.

Dubbed by its own organisers as the “unconference,” the DBR Funfest is an informal, social gathering of the whole DBR community.

There are no admission fees required and there is no formal schedule set.  The main goal of this event is to bring DBR members together so that they may party aboard a “Pirate Ship“,  actually a custom-built trawler.
