The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will hold its next regular meeting in Singapore this coming June 19-20, 2011. ICANN regularly holds three meetings in different venues across the globe each year. One of these meetings is the organization’s general meeting wherein new Board members are chosen.

This upcoming event in Singapore is the 41st ICANN meeting since 1999. The first ever ICANN meeting held last March 2-4 also took place in Singapore.

ICANN Meetings are free and run for five days, usually from Monday – Friday. ICANN offers a venue and opportunity for face-to-face discussions among people directly related to matters concerning the stability of the Internet. Issues to be tackled are those related to the Domain Name System and Internet restructuring, a big focus being on the introduction of new Top Level Domains.

ICANN has summarized the following benefits that attendees can gain from the ICANN meeting:
• Understand how Internet policies are created and how the Internet works.
• Gain knowledge about the main issues facing the Internet today and in the near future.
• Learn and take the information back to your organization.
• Enhance ICANN’s work by participating in all key developments.

A main component of ICANN meetings is the diversity of the participants – over hundred of international groups and individuals who will be participating.

The ICANN 41 Meeting is hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA); a statutory board of the Singapore Government.

The schedule of activities for this ICANN event is jam-packed with intensive discussions, sessions, and workshops. Aside from enjoying the benefits of attending the event, participants can also take advantage of the opportunity to explore Singapore by visiting its wonderful tourist spots and cities.
