The first of the three meetings in 2012 of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica  on the 11th to 16th of March, 2012.

ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation that has the responsibility of coordinating Internet names and numbers so that the web will continue to be stable, secure, and interoperable.

Each year, ICANN launches three separate meetings. For 2012, the first meeting will be held in Costa Rica (March 11-16); the second one in Prague, Czech Republic (June 24-29); and the last in Toronto, Canada (October 14-19).

The whole ICANN community is very much excited for these international public meetings.

ICANN Meeting #43 in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is said to be the greenest country in the world. It boasts of a rich wildlife, biodiversity, and culture. Located in Central America, Costa Rica is one of the most-visited tourist spots in the world.

The 43rd ICANN Meeting will take place in one of Costa Rica’s luxury places – the Ramada Plaza Herradura Golf Resort and Conference Center.

The host for this event is the National Academy of Sciences – NIC Costa Rica. Pertinent matters and issues in relation to the role of ICANN will be discussed.

About 1,200 – 1,500 Internet authorities and specialists across more than 100 countries are expected to attend.

The third annual meeting of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for 2011 is to be held in Africa October 24-28, 2011. The whole ICANN community is very much excited for this international public meeting.

The host for this event is the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies of Senegal. The Senegal government is giving its full-support for this event by ensuring the safety and security of the attendees.

Pertinent matters and issues in relation to the role of ICANN as a regulator of the domain space will be discussed.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will hold its next regular meeting in Singapore this coming June 19-20, 2011. ICANN regularly holds three meetings in different venues across the globe each year. One of these meetings is the organization’s general meeting wherein new Board members are chosen.

This upcoming event in Singapore is the 41st ICANN meeting since 1999. The first ever ICANN meeting held last March 2-4 also took place in Singapore.

ICANN Meetings are free and run for five days, usually from Monday –  Friday. ICANN offers a venue and opportunity for face-to-face discussions among people directly related to matters concerning the stability of the Internet. Issues to be tackled are those related to the Domain Name System and Internet restructuring, a big focus being on the introduction of new Top Level Domains.

ICANN has summarized the following benefits that attendees can gain from the ICANN meeting:

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will hold a regional event in Munich, Germany this coming May 12-13, 2011. This two-day event will give the ICANN staff, ICANN-accredited registrars and representatives of gTLD registries a chance to informally meet together and discuss pertinent topics in the industry.

The expected agenda will cover updates or developments on the following subjects:

1. DNSSEC
2. Contractual Compliance
3. GNSO Policy Initiatives
4. DNS Abuse Mitigation Efforts.

A Registrar Training for the 2009 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) is also part of the agenda.

Regional ICANN events are different from international meetings. The latter is more structurally formal and it can influence policy development. On the other hand, regional events are held to informally give people from local registrars a place to meet the ICANN staff and as well as interact with gTLD registries and other regional event attendees. Part of the regional event’s goal is to let people from the local registrars understand ICANN more, and have them appreciate the corporation’s policy issues (thereby promoting compliance).
