The 33rd International Public Meeting (and ICANN’s Tenth Annual Meeting) will be held at the InterContinental CityStars Hotel in Cairo. Participants will include policy makers, government representatives, country code Top Level domain managers, and internet businesses. The Meeting will basically follow the same format as all ICANN’s Annual Meetings, and discuss topics of interest and concern to a wide range of stakeholders.
The Meeting will focus on the usual areas addressing issues in ICANN’s mandate—Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), an important milestone in Internet development; the Registry/Registrar businesses’ challenges and opportunities; and developments in the generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) space. There will be sharing of experiences among members of various supporting organizations and advisory committees. During the past few years, ICANN and the Internet community took great interest on the technical aspects of IDN, its policy dimensions and implications. Latest developments will be discussed with the Internet community, while experiences and knowledge among the participants will be discussed. The final agenda will be available on 15 September 2008.
- What: ICANN Regional Meeting
- Where: Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai, UAE
- When: April 1-3, 2008
The regional meeting to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai targets policy makers, government representatives, country code Top Level domain managers, and internet businesses; and intends to discuss topics of concern to a wide range of stakeholders. The agenda of the meeting is designed according to three focus areas: ICANN’s multi-stakeholder model for addressing issues in its mandate; Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), a key milestone in the development of the Internet; and the challenges and opportunities in Registry/Registrar businesses as well as developments in the generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) space. An overview of ICANN as a multi-stakeholder environment will be presented. Their members in various supporting organizations and advisory committees will share their experiences and explain to the audience why they participate in ICANN and how to get engaged in the process. A key area that ICANN and the Internet technical community have been exploring for the past few years is the IDN, not only its technical aspects but also its policy dimensions and implications. The meeting aims to inform the Internet community of the Arab region on the latest developments in this area, at the technical and policy levels; and share experiences and knowledge among the participants.
